Fashion was looked upon, awards were received, performances were show stopping and Bruno Mars cleaned house.
On Sunday January 28, 2018 the red carpet rolled out and the doors of Madison Square Garden in New York City unlocked for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, with host James Corden.
Artist Bruno Mars stole the show as he was a frequent stage walker, taking home 6 titles including: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Album, and Best Engineered Non-classical for /24K Magic/ and Song of the Year, Best R&B song and Best R&B Performance for his hit song /That’s What I like/.
Other spotlights go to Ed Sheeran’s Divide album for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for his hit Shape of You, Alessia Cara for Best New Artist, Little Big Town for Best Country Duo/ Group Performance and The Weekend’s Starboy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Many students tuned in for the event to see their favorite artists accept awards, perform and come together.
The performances seemed to capture the attention of everyone. “The performances are my favorite part of The Grammys, Miley Cyrus was my favorite because she sang with Elton John and it was very touching,” said senior psychology major Malinthi Fernando.
Fernando feels that Bruno Mar’s six wins may have been a little too much. “I think Bruno Mars won too much because he always wins awards at other ceremonies,” said Fernando.
Some people enjoy the Grammy’s because they like to see all the artist together in one place celebrating each other.
“I think it’s good that they have a ceremony that gets all the artists together, it also introduces you to new artists,” said sophomore psychology major Elizabeth Smith.
Celebrities that took the mic on stage this year included Miley Cyrus and Elton John, Kesha, Camila Cabello, Cyndi Lauper, Julia Michaels, Andra Day and Bebe Rexha, Lady Gaga, Alessia Cara and Khalid & Logic, Kendrick Lamar, Little Big Town, Bruno Mars & Cardi B, P!nk, Rihanna and DJ Khaled & Bryson Tiller and more.

The tabloids have been raving about Kesha’s performance of “Pray” which was a song that sent the whole crowd in awe, the power behind it was one to be remembered.
“I liked Kesha’s song Prey when she sang with all the other girls, it was very touching,” said Fernando smiling.
The Grammys would not be the Grammy’s without the dapper fashion too. Andra Day who went for the bold red look wore a strapless red dress by Vivienne Westwood Couture.
Hailee Steinfeild who sings Most Girls made a statement in her purple boots and white leg cut out dress, Sam Smith in an olive green suit and Jenny McCarthy with statement blue hair (which was just jet blond for Dick Clarks New Year’s Rockin Eve) and a black decked out in glitter dress and Tony Bennet who is looking fabulous at 91.
For those of you who are already counting down the days to the next awards shows, the 90th Oscars is set to air on TV on Sunday March 4, 2018 on ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second consecutive year. The iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday March 11 on TBS, TNT and truTV, and will be hosted by DJ Khaled.
