Club Profile: The Charlton student entrepreneur and startup club

By Zachariah Drown, Contributing Writer

This week The Torch sat in on a meeting for The Charlton Student Entrepreneur and Startup Club. While I was there I got the pleasure of talking to Zachary Sass, a senior of the Charlton School of Business, and President of the Charlton Student Entrepreneur and Startup Club, or CSESC for short.

Zachary explained to me that CSESC is a self-development group looking to instill the values of entrepreneurship and demonstrate their importance in society. Now, this description may sound a bit too professional for your interests. However, don’t be fooled by the club’s mission statement. CSESC certainly helps you develop entrepreneur skills, but the club does this in a pressure free environment.

After taking part in one of their introductory activities and giving a sales pitch on a pillow to the members of the group, I could tell this was true. CSESC is a relatively new addition to the ever growing list of organizations here at UMass Dartmouth.

Founded in the Fall of 2016, the entrepreneur club is steadily growing. But Zachary and the rest of the CSESC always welcomes new members. The club meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Charlton College of Business building, Room 115.

Although CSESC is a relatively small club, it has big plans for the future. Zachary tells The Torch that the club plans to construct strong relationships with the Dartmouth business community, as well as students and other organizations on campus. If you want to build yourself into a more professional person or simply want to be more involved on campus then Zachary encourages you to join.

For more information on the CSESC, students can visit the “MyOrgs” section of UMass Dartmouth’s web page. Students can also join the CSESC Facebook group. It can be found by searching CSEC on Facebook.

UMass Dartmouth’s First Annual Film Festival will be held on March 24 at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center, also offers information on the club. The festival will showcase a variety of local artists and their work. If you would like to join feel free to drop into a weekly meeting or contact the Secretary and Treasurer Marcia Carvalho at mcarvalho@umassd.edu.
