The UMass Dartmouth men’s soccer team was on fire the past couple of games taking home two wins for the week.
On Wednesday, October 12 the men won 4-1 against Roger Williams at Cressy Field.
However, the ball had a mind of its own releasing it free and sophomore defenseman, Junior Monteiro, as he met the ball and made the first score of the match.
Just shy of half time, midfielder Haden Cordeiro’s corner kick met the foot of freshman midfielder Elvis Mendes who brought the ball past a Hawk defender placing it into the bottom left corner for the matches next score.
Some game day highlights include a round of applause for Monteiro and Mendes who scored their first goals of their UMass Dartmouth soccer careers.
Furthermore, Mendes made his first career point against the Hawks.
The offense as of Wednesday marked the fifth game of the season that UMass Dartmouth has created four or more goals.
The Corsairs broke the four game losing streak against Roger Williams, as the last victory against the team was on October 4, 2011. It was 5-4 double overtime.
This past Saturday the Corsairs took field once again on October 15 against Southern Maine, with a 1-0 win.
In the 19 minute midfielder Fabio Araujo made the game winning score for the Little East Conference at Hannaford Field.
When tuning into some game day highlights, the Corsairs outshot the Huskies 27-8 and had a 13-2 corner kick advantages.
Both are the second highest marks the offense has achieved this season.
Looking at the overall picture the boys are a 20-7-1 all-time against Southern Maine, in which they took home the wins in the last seven contests between both teams. The boys are currently a 2-4 on the year when scoring two or less goals.
Come show the boys some game day spirit the day of the Family Fall Festival and Senior Day as the Corsairs play at home, against Keene State on Saturday October 22 at 7 p.m. It is a game everyone will surely not want to miss, plus your family and friends will love a night of soccer.
If you cannot make it this Saturday come cheer the team on for another home game on Tuesday October 25, against Coast Guard at 7 p.m.
