After most of the votes had come in, Vice President Kamala Harris gave a speech to all the supporters of her campaign.

At this point, most of the votes have come in, and Former President Trump, the Republican candidate for this election, is to become the 47th president of the United States.

It was reported that she had gone home and urged her supporters to do the same. Though something needed to be done, she had to go out one last time to send support and hope to those who might’ve voted for her this election.

It was on November 6th that she came out to her voters to publicly concede the election to her opponent and to give a speech from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

According to an article from CBS News, Harris’s speech mainly consisted of urging her voters and supporters to keep hope and not despair too much. She told everyone listening to carry on “the fight that fueled this campaign.”

She continued on in this message by talking about how “…The outcome of this election was not what we wanted…”. Still, she brought the message back to hope, saying, “…the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”

This could hint at the possibility of Harris running again in the future, although who exactly will be running for that election is still four years away.

It was also expressly stated that the election results are to be respected and honored despite the disappointing outcome for many. This was likely a jab at the former president’s claims about the 2020 election being rigged.

“A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results,” as recorded by CBS News.

Of course, all of Harris’s supporters showed up at the speech, along with her running mate Tim Walz, Representative Nancy Pelosi, and former House Speaker Barbara Lee, as noted by AP News.

Most of the people there were very disappointed by the results, and quite a few shed tears during the speech. AP News even got some quotes from the attendees.

“We’re partly sad, because hearing her speak, she would have been an amazing person to bring the country together and to keep us on a better path,” said one attendee, according to AP News.

So, what can Americans expect from the new president?

What are some of the immediate things that Trump plans to do when he gets into office, and should the American people be worried?

Well, for starters, President-Elect Donald Trump cannot do anything until he is sworn in on January 20th as a part of the Constitution. Until then, the Biden Administration will still be in control.

Although, when he is eventually brought into the White House, he plans to do quite a lot on day one (allegedly). One of the significant things is to enact a mass deportation of all the illegal immigrants that are in the United States.

As mentioned in an article from NPR, Trump plans to “launch the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

Whether or not he actually has the resources and capabilities to carry this out on day one is another question, as an operation on this scale would cost a lot of money and time, not to mention a lot of manpower to carry it out.

Another one of Trump’s plans to enact as soon as possible is to essentially remove the majority of the plans and actions that were implemented by President Biden.

Aside from all that, he plans to extend his tax cuts and Jobs Act from 2017, as well as working on regulatory reforms and reviewing energy policies, according to NPR News.

Although he plans to carry out all these things and says that they will all be carried out on day one, the reality is that he will put these plans into motion, and the actual ending won’t be achieved until well after the plans have started. Plans like that usually take a good amount of time to execute.

Overall, to those who are still nervous for what the future holds, Harris says it best in her speech to her supporters saying:

“To the young people who are watching, do not despair… To the young people who are watching it is ok to feel sad and disappointed, but please know it’s going to be ok.”

“This is not a time to throw up our hands, this is a time to roll up our sleeves.

And now America watches on, in anticipation of what the next president has to offer.
