Bringing sexy back to the Super Bowl

By Dylan Botelho, Staff Writer

It’s official. The world’s greatest performer will be preforming on America’s biggest stage, the Super Bowl.

Justin Timberlake answered the rumors and officially announced he’ll be performing during Super Bowl LII’s Pepsi Halftime show on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during a comedy sketch.

This won’t be Timberlake’s first time preforming during halftime. Many people won’t forget his appearance with Janet Jackson when he removed a piece of her top, revealing her pierced nipple to the world and creating what we now know today as “nipplegate.”

Unfortunately, there’s been a lot of backlash since the announcement because of the wardrobe malfunction in 2004, which is just absurd.

This is absolutely no time for Justin Timberlake slander. There is never a time for Timberlake slander, actually. Instead, we need to appreciate the fact that we’re going to get an absolutely stellar performance.

That show was different. Jackson was the headliner while Timberlake was just a featured artist. 14 years later though, the stage is all Timberlake’s. His tickets sell out immediately for hundreds and hundreds of dollars and you’re going to get one for free! Shut up and enjoy it.

I would literally pay to watch this halftime show, I don’t care. If the Patriots aren’t in it, it might just be better than the game itself.

As someone whose mother played Justin Timberlake’s greatest hits every single day growing up, I’ve had a deep love for ‘ol JT ever since I was young. Not to be dramatic, but there might not ever be a greater halftime show than the one we’ll see this year.

It won’t be about any grand spots, like Lady Gaga’s jump from the top of the stadium or Katy Perry’s left shark. It’ll be all about the talent and there is no one in the music business who can sniff the talent of Justin Timberlake.

Like him or not (even though I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like him), you can’t deny Timberlake’s talent.

He can sing, dance, and do pretty much everything else better than anyone else. No matter how long of a hiatus he takes away from music to try and pursue an acting career filled with B-movies and hilarious guest hosts on SNL, Timberlake never loses his touch.

Seven years removed from FutureSex/LoveSounds, which went six times platinum, Timberlake put out The 20/20 Experience, which then went double platinum and sold over 6 million copies world-wide.

The real question here is just what in the hell is he going to play? Justin Timberlake could perform for a week straight and we’d probably still find a song deserving to be played that wasn’t.

Lady Gaga preformed seven songs during the Super Bowl LI halftime show but I’m going to list eight for Timberlake to choose because I don’t think he’ll be jumping off any buildings.

So here it is, the definitive list of the eight songs Justin Timberlake will be performing during Super Bowl LII’s halftime show: “SexyBack,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” “Suit & Tie, Señorita” (just because it’s my favorite), “My Love,”… and what’s this? It’s the rest of NSYNC!!! Together they perform “Bye Bye Bye,” “It’s Gonna Be Me,” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart.”

What a show it will be. It might even be too good. Everyone might not even want to go back to watching football.
