Upcoming Theatre at UMass Dartmouth

As UMass Dartmouth begins another semester, it also begins another season of theatre. Both the UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company and 20 Cent Fiction Production Company are preparing to bring some excitement to campus in their upcoming seasons.

The UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company’s 12th Annual Broadway will be held in early November. Kenzi Farland, UMass Dartmouth Theater Company’s secretary and Reilly Brenner will be directing. This year’s revue takes on a sinister tone as it consists of pieces sung by an array of Broadway’s famous antagonists. You have two nights to take in the songs: Nov 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Also in November, the UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company’s production of Pride and Prejudice will take the stage Nov 21 – 23 at 7 p.m., and Nov 24 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. Pride and Prejudice will be directed by CJ Belmore and assistant directed by Kate Egan.

A musical and play for the spring semester are both to be announced by the executive board in the coming weeks.

20 Cent Fiction Production Company has already kicked off the semester with Theatre Jam on Sept 14, a 24-hour event where members stayed up all night to write, direct, and produce a one act play.

20 Cent Fiction’s next big event will be their 26th Annual Rocky Horror Picture Show, directed by 20 Cent Fiction treasurer Sawyer Pollitt. This long-time tradition will go up on Halloween Weekend. Shows are Oct 31, Nov 1 and 2 at 8 p.m., and Nov 3 at Midnight.

During the winter, be on the lookout for HELLFIRE, written by student, and 20 Cent Fiction president Gabriella Barthe. In the spring, Greenday’s American Idiot is slated to be on the schedule in April.

In April, both companies will join forces in a joint variety show to raise money for Relay For Life. A fundraiser to support cancer research that is held annually here at UMass Dartmouth.
