BVO is BVOver: Possible Citrus Soda Ingredient Ban by the FDA

 

The FDA has proposed a ban on brominated vegetable oil (BVO), a preservative used in citrus soda, due to its harmful health effects. Studies show BVO can cause heart damage, liver dysfunctions, fertility issues and is associated with cancer development. Some large beverage companies have already begun removing BVO from their products. The harmful ingredient is still present in several sodas in the market. Despite challenges in attracting members and meeting the 10-member threshold for official recognition, initial meetings have drawn in students from across all majors and years. The club expects official recognition next semester as long as it can acquire a treasurer, an advisor, and a finalized constitution.

The New Sam Adams Beer is Illegal 

 

Sam Adams has relaunched its ultra-high alcohol content beer, “Utopia,” currently prohibited in 15 US states. Described as “extreme barrel-aged beer,” its alcohol content is 28%. Valued at $240 for a 24.5-ounce bottle, it is available in 35 states and also on tap at Samuel Adams Cincinnati Tap Room. Its next release is slated for 2025.
