The Jonas Brothers were a staple to most kids who grew up in the 2000s, whether you watched their TV show, watched Camp Rock, or even listened to their music. Regardless, if you don’t know who The Jonas Brothers are, you’ve definitely at least heard of them.
However, that was fifteen years ago, and currently, in pop culture news, you might have heard Joe’s name in recent headlines.
Some know that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were publicly seen as a couple in 2016. Their relationship grew, and they quickly got married in 2019. However, in recent news, after four years of marriage, they have decided to get divorced and are now in a custody war between their two children.
Now, you might be thinking that that was a lot to take in. How did it get to that point, and what is even happening?
That’s why I’m here to give you a recap on what happened and what’s to come from all of this.
For those who do not know, Sophie Turner is a notable actress mostly known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. She has also been seen in other TV shows and movies such as X-Men: Apocalypse, Do Revenge, and Dark Phoenix.
Let’s start from the beginning of Sophie and Joe’s relationship.
The two were introduced to each other through a mutual friend, and from there, they hit it off and started dating. They dated for a short period before getting engaged. Then, later, in 2019, the two got married. Their wedding was live-streamed through Instagram Live for their fans.
The couple has two children together, the first in 2020 and the second in 2022.
During their marriage, The Jonas brothers reunited as a band and released their song Sucker. Since then, they have released two new albums and recently went on a huge tour recognizing five albums (they do have more albums, but won’t acknowledge them).
With the two new albums and the massive tour, they have skyrocketed back into the spotlight.
Now that you are caught up on everything happening in the life of Joe Jonas, you may be wondering – what happened?
Back in early September, after The Jonas Brothers Tour, rumors emerged about Joe and Sophie heading towards divorce. Prominent pop culture news outlets such as Pop Crave and Daily News began recognizing the situation. Slowly, fans started talking online about how Joe hadn’t been wearing his wedding ring.
If you’re a fan of The Jonas Brothers, then you know Joe likes to keep his life pretty private from the public. For a long time, fans didn’t even know the names of his two kids. So, fans weren’t sure if this was for PR matters or some other reason.
Rumors were going around the internet for weeks, from claims of them being separated for months already to allegations that Joe was taking care of their two kids because Sophie didn’t have the time.
However, it didn’t take long for Joe and Sophie to shut down rumors with a social media post in regard to their relationship.
“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
After this post, it seemed to clear the air between the two and clarify what was happening between them, but this wasn’t the end of it.
Shortly after this, news articles of the two fighting over custody of their children started popping up on the internet. Sophie was suing Joe, demanding that the kids were to be returned to England.
Due to the situation, Sophie has been suspected of staying at Taylor Swift’s home in New York City while things die down and legal matters are sorted.
Now where does this leave us?
Many fans are divided – some are taking Joe’s side, and some are taking Sophie’s. This is despite the fact that the couple wishes to be out of the public eye, but it’s hard when it’s two celebrities in the matter.
Mediations have started between the two in New York, and overall it is just really messy.
As said before, fans have taken sides, and news outlets keep attacking, trying to get any information about the situation, despite their wishes. Since Sophie has been seen out in New York City with Taylor Swift multiple times, “Swifties” have even taken to the internet to talk about the friendship, especially given they are now both exes of Joe Jonas.
The relation to Taylor Swift has truly brought the situation to the forefront of media coverage.
Sadly this is the reality of being a celebrity, having no privacy whatsoever, and having to deal with being in the public eye.
Who will “win” at the end of this is a loaded question, and who knows what the outcome will be?
We can only hope for the best for the two and their children.
